When a tooth gets decay or breaks, most of the time, the tooth can be saved. This is done by removing the decay, or cleaning up the broken portion of the tooth, and then replacing the missing portion of the tooth with a white filling. At Greater Knox Dental, our dentists are highly experienced at restoring decayed and broken teeth with conservative techniques aimed at preserving as much of your natural tooth structure as possible.  During your procedure, we ensure you are comfortable and relaxed. The dental materials we use for your white fillings are all TGA approved and are of the highest Australian quality, ensuring you have a safe and premium quality procedure.

At Greater Knox Dental, our first aim is always to preserve and keep your natural teeth. However, sometimes a tooth cannot be kept (due to a variety of reasons such as infection, too broken down or being too decayed), and in these instances, we have dentists that have the expertise and experience to safely remove the tooth for you, as painlessly and comfortably as possible.

We also have dentists that have advanced training in the removal of wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth generally start to grow out at around 18-21 years of age. Sometimes due to their location, decay and the angulation they grow out, wisdom teeth can cause pain, swelling and infection. If that is the case, your wisdom teeth may need to be removed.  Tooth extraction, as well as wisdom teeth removal can done using a local anaesthetic. We ensure you will not feel any pain during the procedure. However, you may feel some discomfort the following days after the procedure. Our dentists will guide you how to manage post operative discomfort or pain. Sometimes you may need to take analgesics and antibiotics.

Every human tooth has nerves and blood vessels inside it that keeps the tooth alive. These nerves and blood vessels inside the tooth can die, or become irritated or infected (there are many causes; the common factors are deep tooth decay, trauma or damage to the tooth, and even old deep fillings). When this happens, it can cause you toothache, pain and swelling and even an abscess. Root canal therapy aims to remove the irritated or infected nerve and tissues inside the tooth, as well as disinfecting the inside thus, allowing you to keep your tooth. Generally, your own tooth is much stronger and functions more efficiently during eating.

At times, teeth that are badly damaged or that are constantly breaking need to be protected from further damage and need to be strengthened for chewing. A Dental Crown is a protective “cap” that circles the remaining tooth and keeps the integrity of the tooth. Simply speaking, a crown is like a permanent helmet for the tooth.

A Dental Bridge aids to replace one or more missing teeth by having an artificial tooth attached to crowns placed on the teeth adjacent to the gap.

One option of replacing a missing tooth or a gap in your mouth is by using a dental implant. In simple terms, a dental implant is a special titanium screw that is permanently placed inside your jaw bone, and then a dental crown is attached to this titanium screw, meaning you have a functional and aesthetically appealing artificial tooth. Placing an implant into the bone can be easier than taking a tooth out and can usually done using a local anesthetic. You will not feel any pain at the time but, just like after an extraction, you may feel some discomfort during the week after the surgery.

At Greater Knox Dental, we have 2 options of Professional Teeth Whitening. It can improve the appearance of discoloured teeth and removes surface stains such as tea, coffee and wines.

Option 1 is “In-Office Whitening”, this is where you attend an appointment and have your teeth professionally whitened at our Practice by one of our dentists. Effective and strong whitening medicaments are administered during the whitening procedure, and our dentists are present with you at all times to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for you.
Option 2 is a Take Home whitening kit. Custom made bleaching trays are made to fit around your teeth that hold the whitening gels. These trays are worn for one to two hours for a fortnight during the initial period leaving you with a refreshed and bright smile. This Take Home option allows you to whiten your teeth in comfort of your own home to match your lifestyle. This can be a relatively inexpensive, safe and effective way to whiten your teeth.

Dentures are removable prosthesis of replacing missing teeth. They are generally made of acrylic and metal, with the denture teeth made of acrylic. They are still commonly fabricated and used to replace missing teeth so you can regain function and aesthetics.

At Greater Knox Dental, we also have the expertise to fabricate new dentures for you, either full dentures (where you have all your teeth missing) or partial dentures (where you have some teeth missing). We are also highly experienced in the repairs and modifications of your existing dentures.

Healthy gums are generally pink and don’t bleed on brushing or flossing. However, if gums and the tissues that holds the teeth become inflamed and infected, it can lead to painful gums, smelly breath, bad taste, gum abscess, loose teeth and even the loss of teeth. Periodontal therapy aims to stop the progression of gum disease and restored colour and health of gum tissue.

A positive early dental experience is important to children as they grow up. The first dental visit for your child ideally should start before your child turns 2 years old.

At Greater Knox Dental, we are highly experienced in caring for young children and we will ensure your child have positive and fun dental experience. We are trained and are experts in techniques that relax and desensitise children to the dental environment at Greater Knox Dental.

Our goal for children is to introduce good dental habits at an early age to protect the little teeth that form the foundation. We also support the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.  CDBS is a dental benefits program for eligible children aged 2-17 years that provides up to $1000 in benefits to the child for basic dental services. We Bulk Bill our patients who qualify for it.

If you or your child play contact sport, it is important to wear a custom-made mouthguard to protect your teeth from serious dental injuries. Mouthguards can protect you from facial injuries such as broken jaws, cut lips and fractured or knocked-out teeth. A custom-made mouthguard can absorb and spread the impact of the hard blow to your face, protecting your jaw and teeth.

A custom made mouthguard  by your dentist, is far superior to an over-the-counter (including boil-and-bite) mouthguard. Being custom made, this mouthguard fits comfortably around the teeth, it is more resilient, and it is unlikely to fall out during your sports activity, allows normal speech, and won’t restrict your breathing.

Teeth grinding (Bruxism) is involuntary clenching and grinding of the teeth that usually happens during sleep. At Greater Knox Dental we can provide assessment for signs and symptoms of teeth grinding. We provide treatment options such as: occlusal bite splints (usually to be worn at night), repair of tooth damage, and stress management techniques.
